happy stories

People, I'm here with a plea.

Give me some good news.

This can be good news about your kitten finally learning to tinkle in the litter box. This can be good news about the use of clean energy in the production of construction materials in the Midwest. This can be good news about how you've learned to talk to a difficult person with kindness. I'm up for anything.

Lately it's seems like it's been all bad news and sadness around here. I'm ready to hear some other voices. Leave a comment with some good news if you feel so inclined. Thanks.

  • I'm in!!! I got a job today! How long have I wanted a new job? Oh, about 5 years. How long have I felt I might actually be worthy of a new job? Oh, about a month. And today, one landed, fully formed, in my lap, with no application or interview required. Working for and with people I love and respect. :-) Will that do, RL?

  • I go here

I managed to knit a few rows this weekend. Had lunch with a friend I need more of, who's great for my brain and my heart...and I got a new tattoo!

I know mine are vague, but they each filled my heart up a little more and I'd like to pour some out and give it to you.

  • My family came home last night safely after we were apart for a week. I took my daughter to get her ears pierced today and she is very excited. Work is going well, lots of new work looming in the near future. Looking forward to some exciting changes in life soon.

    Feeling bad for my friend.

  • We're in a similar pickle up here. The hot weather is making people go crazy and do bad things in our neighborhood. It's giving me the jibblies.

But on the other hand, I'm going camping in a few weeks with the cadaver dissection far behind me. That's good.

  • Do you remember that last May I had quit my job to pursue writing? Grad school was among my goals. I wanted to get into an MFA program that was a) reputable, b) would give me really good funding and c) located in a great city.

I'm in Austin, TX now about to begin my first semester as a fiction MFA candidate at TX State San Marcos.

Here is something I do now and then. I read that their was some study that showed it has a chemical effect on your endorphins: Every night before you go to bed list 3 positive things that happened to you during that day.

    You are resilient.

  • I just rescued 4 kittens today while out on a bike ride with a friend. There was no mother cat around as confirmed by the locals nearby. We rode back to our cars and then drove back and took them to the Animal Rescue League. The ARL said they were probably only 4 months and I'm praying they find loving homes - they deserve it!! It was hard to leave them (like leaving a child for the 1st day of schoold but you'll not see them again) but I know they're in a good place for good things to come!

  • Wow! I read the date of the post after I left the comment.
I guess [and hope] you are already smiling and happy and contented with life.

    May I recommend a book?
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It changed my life and it would change yours too.

  • The Guardian has this good news:

US surrenders power to appoint World Bank president

The US is to lose its power to appoint the president of the World Bank after the UK's development secretary, Douglas Alexander, brokered a deal to throw open the post to candidates from any country.

Backed by European governments and developing countries, Alexander overcame resistance from the US and Japan to secure a reform he described last night as "a significant step forward".

Washington has had the right to hand-pick the president of the World Bank since the institution was founded after the second world war, with Europe choosing the managing director of the International Monetary Fund.

Alexander said: "The agreement provides the opportunity for candidates to be nominated regardless of nationality. It will ensure that the best-qualified candidate is selected."
